Discussions centered on future electricity demand forecasting, where the Single Buyer team shared their methodology combining historical data with forward-looking projections to ensure reliable supply for Sabah’s growing communities. A key topic was the readiness of housing developments to support electric vehicle infrastructure, with projections showing EV ownership in Sabah rising from 814 units today to nearly 48,000 by 2036. SHAREDA highlighted that EV charging stations are not yet part of current housing plans.
Sabah Electricity emphasized the importance of upgrading to three-phase systems to meet EV charging requirements. The session also addressed concerns about electricity capacity in new housing projects, with Sabah Electricity clarifying that staggered usage arrangements are now available to ease supply during early occupancy phases.
SHAREDA inform Sabah Electricity that they can serve as a platform for Sabah Electricity to share updates and information with their fellow member developers, ensuring better alignment between housing growth and electricity planning. This engagement reflects Sabah Electricity’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with industry stakeholders to anticipate future energy needs and support sustainable development in Sabah.
